Is UFC Betting Legal in New Zealand?
TAB NZ is the only New Zealand-licensed provider of sports betting, operated in partnership with Entain since 2024. Overseas betting sites aren’t licensed in New Zealand and can’t advertise here. A 2025 law creates licences for online casinos, but sports betting remains with the TAB. Minimum age is 18.
How to Bet on UFC in New Zealand
- Choose a locally licensed site. Examples include TAB NZ. Check the licence on the Department of Internal Affairs website before you sign up.
- Register and verify. You’ll confirm your identity and age (18+). This is required by law and protects your withdrawals.
- Deposit in NZD. Use a local payment method, and set a deposit limit straight away.
- Find UFC under MMA or Combat Sports. Main events offer moneyline, method of victory, round and distance markets; smaller fights may only have a moneyline.
- Check the start time. Most UFC cards run on US time, so they often land overnight or the next morning in New Zealand (see the table below).
What Time Is UFC in New Zealand?
Numbered UFC events held in the US usually run early prelims at 5 PM ET, prelims at 7 PM ET and the main card at 9 PM ET. Here’s what that means in NZ time (NZST/NZDT):
| Segment | Winter (Nov) | Summer (Jul) |

| Prelims | Sun 1:00 PM | Sun 11:00 AM |

How to Check a Betting Site Is Licensed in New Zealand
- Look for the licence notice. Licensed sites show their licence number and regulator in the footer (in New Zealand, that’s Department of Internal Affairs).
- Check the official register. Regulators publish lists of licensed operators. If a brand isn’t listed, don’t deposit.
- Watch for warning signs. No identity checks, crypto-only payments, huge bonuses with unclear terms, or a site that tells you to use a VPN are all red flags.
- Use the safety tools. Licensed operators must offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. Set them up on day one.
Smart UFC Betting Tips
- Wait for weigh-ins. Missed weight, short-notice replacements and bad weight cuts move lines on Friday.
- Compare odds. Prices on the same fight can differ between licensed operators. Taking the better line adds up over a year.
- Respect styles. Wrestlers vs strikers, cardio in five-round fights and reach advantages matter more than hype.
- Be careful with live bets. Odds change fast between rounds. Decide your plan before the fight starts.
- Keep parlays small. Each extra leg multiplies the bookmaker’s margin.

UFC and New Zealand
Auckland’s City Kickboxing produced former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, Dan Hooker and Kai Kara-France, and Auckland has hosted several UFC Fight Nights. Because New Zealand is far ahead of US time, US main cards land on Sunday afternoon.

UFC Fight Week in New Zealand: A Timeline
- Early in fight week: the line settles. Odds on the main event are usually available well before fight night. With a single legal operator, check its price against consensus odds before you bet. Stakes and payouts are in NZD.
- Weigh-in day. Official weigh-ins are usually on Friday morning US time, which is Saturday 3:00 AM NZ time (NZST/NZDT) for a Saturday event. Missed weight and late replacements change the fight and the odds.
- Fight night in New Zealand. For a US-based numbered event, early prelims start around Sunday 11:00 AM, the prelims around Sunday 1:00 PM and the main card around Sunday 3:00 PM NZ time (NZST/NZDT). The main event usually starts two to three hours after that.
- After the fights. Bets settle once results are official. Keep your own record of stakes and returns, and check whether winnings are taxable where you live.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Using an unlicensed site. In New Zealand, only operators approved by Department of Internal Affairs give you legal protection.
- Not checking the start time. UFC cards run on US time, so the main event often lands overnight or the next morning in New Zealand.
- Forgetting verification. Licensed sites check your identity and age (18+). Upload documents early so withdrawals aren’t delayed.
- Chasing losses on late fights. Set a budget in NZD before the prelims and stick to it.
