Short answer? Anderson Silva lives in Los Angeles, and he has for years. He’s a native of São Paulo, Brazil, but L.A. is home base now. We couldn’t find a publicly confirmed gym for his current training, and we’ll be upfront about that below.

So where is Anderson Silva actually from?
Here’s where it gets a little confusing. The UFC lists him as a São Paulo native. But Wikipedia lists him as fighting out of Curitiba, Brazil. And at least one lower-quality site says he was born in Curitiba. We’d go with the UFC’s version.
So why do so many fans think “Curitiba”? Because that’s where his career took shape. Curitiba is a city known for its deep combat-sports culture. It’s also home to Chute Boxe Academy, which opened there in 1978 as a Muay Thai academy.
Does he really live in Los Angeles?
Yes. The UFC’s Hall of Fame announcement says he lives in Los Angeles with his family. MMA Mania also reports that he lives in California.
It wasn’t a sudden move, either. Back in 2007, he talked about opening a training center in Los Angeles and staying there. And he eventually made L.A. his home while keeping his Brazilian identity.
We’re keeping this to the city level. That’s all that’s been publicly shared, and it’s all we need.
Which gyms shaped him?
If you’re asking where Silva trained over his career, the list is long. Here’s the quick version.
| Era | Team or gym | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Late 1990s to early 2000s | Chute Boxe Academy (1997–2003) | Curitiba, Brazil |
| Early to mid 2000s | Brazilian Top Team, after he left Chute Boxe and joined Nogueira | Brazil |
| 2007 to 2013 | Black House (2007–2013) | Training facilities in Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles |
Black House mattered a lot. The team was formed in the mid-2000s and included Vitor Belfort, Assuério Silva and Lyoto Machida, with Silva as UFC middleweight champion. If you remember his title run, that’s the team behind it.
His jiu-jitsu ties matter too. He holds a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Antônio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira.
What’s his training like now?
Honestly, this is where fans want a gym name, and we can’t give you one. We found no reliable report naming the gym or camp for his most recent fight. Anyone who says otherwise is guessing.
What we do know is that his focus has changed. He rejected the chance to fight on Ronda Rousey’s comeback card. He also said he’s done with MMA. He told reporters he might have one or two more fights, boxing only, and that he doesn’t have the mind to train MMA anymore.
His last fight was in Miami. He fought Tyron Woodley on the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua undercard at the Kaseya Center. He stopped Woodley in the second round.
Wikipedia’s infobox lists Josuel Distak and Luiz Dorea as his boxing trainers. That’s a general listing, though. It doesn’t tell you who ran his latest camp.
Wait, he’s training for the police?
Yes, and this is the part that surprises people. After the Woodley fight, he said he’d start police academy. The reports don’t agree on the department. One January 2026 report says Beverly Hills PD. A September 2026 report says the LAPD.
This isn’t a brand-new idea. Years ago, he told Folha de São Paulo he was attending a police academy in L.A. He said his brothers and nephews are police officers, calling it a family thing.
So his weekdays aren’t only about fight prep. After the Woodley fight he talked about balancing “my work, my company, and my training.” That’s a different life from a full-time fight camp, isn’t it?
Is a comeback coming?
Here’s what’s reported. He had no retirement plans after beating Woodley and called for a fight with Chris Weidman. But that Weidman bout, planned for December 19, fell through because of an injury. And a September report said he wasn’t expected to return before the end of the year.
We haven’t found a confirmed next fight. If one gets announced, we’d expect his camp details to come out then. Until it does, we won’t guess.
What fans usually get wrong
- “He still lives in Brazil.” He doesn’t. He’s been based in Los Angeles for years.
- “He trains at one famous gym.” His career ran through several teams, and no single current gym is publicly confirmed.
- “He’s training for MMA.” He’s said he’s finished with MMA and only open to boxing.
